There is the potential to make some real money on Amazon. Every day more and more sellers are signing up on the platform to begin their Amazon selling business. Getting started on Amazon is not necessarily as hard as many may think. Following a few steps and inputting the right information will enable you to get started as far as becoming an Amazon seller. In this article, we cover some of the basics that you will need to know if you do intend to try and sell on Amazon.

Choose your plan

First off, you need to pick an Amazon selling plan. You get to choose between the Individual Plan and the Professional Plan. With the individual plan, you are charged per sale at a rate of .99. You can add new products with this plan, and you will also have access to Fulfillment by Amazon under this tier. The Fulfillment by Amazon offers free shipping to Amazon fulfillment centers and free returns among other aspects of this particular program.

With the Professional Plan, you have access to even more perks. You will be paying a monthly price for this plan of 39.99. If you as a seller are going to be offering multiple promotions, want to be spotlighted on product pages, and would like to be able to review reports and other such analytic data, then this is the better plan for you. With this plan, you will also have fees taken out per transaction.

If you do become an Amazon seller, you will automatically gain access to what is called the Amazon Seller Center. This is a dashboard that enables you to download customized reports and monitor your overall performance in conjunction with your customer analytics.

Setting Up an Amazon Seller Account

1. First off, visit the “how to register” section on the Amazon selling page. This will help you to better understand the process and it consequently walks you through it.

2. You will then choose either “Sell as an Individual” or “Sell like a professional.”

3. You will be prompted to enter your country and/or the country from where you will be based in terms of your selling.

5. The following details then need to be entered as part of the signup process:

  • Citizenship country
  • Birthdate
  • Proof of Identity
  • Address of your business
  • Your business phone number

6. You will then get a pin that needs to be entered for verification purposes.

7. Amazon requires your banking/financial info to have the relevant account into which to distribute your sales proceeds. They will thus ask for your banking info and account number.

8. You then have to accept terms and verify your bank account information.

9. Depending on plan type, you will likely need to enter a credit card number as well.

1o. Choose and input your Amazon store name. If you have UPCs, you will also need to enter the relevant information at this point.

11. Amazon requires you to enter/upload certain ID documents; again, this is all part of the verification process. You then click on submit.

Once you’ve completed this initial process, it usually will take anywhere from 5 to 8 days to receive your confirmation code via standard mail. Use this to verify your new selling account.

Whether Selling or Reselling Items…

There are two different types of Amazon sellers: those who sell unique products or those reselling already existing products. Regardless of which you are selling in your Amazon store, you still need to create a brand new listing for each item you are trying to sell. Keep in mind, your item will be seen on Amazon product pages — these feature other sellers offering similar items. So, when a buyer is searching for a specific item they will be directed to a product page showing all such products relevant to their search. When you create your amazon listing you want to be sure to follow all Amazon guidelines as failing to do so could cause issues with your listing.

Upon listing an item, it becomes live within approximately fifteen minutes. If you are a reseller on Amazon, be sure to match your listing with others that are similar. You also want to be certain to enter those details specific to your product, such that include condition, size (if applicable), price, and any other pertinent details.

Listing a New Item on Amazon

1. First off, you will need to log onto your Amazon seller account.

2. Next, go to your individual Amazon dashboard click on “catalog” and then from the dropdown menu select “add a product.”

3. You have the option to select “I’m adding a product not sold on Amazon.”

4. Be sure to pick the appropriate category for the item you’re listing. You can also pick a subcategory that best suits your specific item.

5. In the “vital info” section, enter any details that you want to supply about the item in question.

Selling an Existing Item on Amazon

When you are selling something that is already being offered either by a third-party Amazon seller or the site itself, you are essentially listing an existing item. You would therefore follow these steps:

1. Log in to your account.

2. Click on the word “Catalog” and you will then select “add a product from the dropdown menu.

3. You can search for the product using: “Find your products in Amazon’s catalog.” You may type in the name or any identifying info such as an ISBN.

4. The site will then bring up several products and you can also select “show variations.”

5. Choose the condition of your specific item.

6. Enter any additional product details.

7. Click “Save.”
